Foo Fighters recently played a show in Memphis, Tenn., where Dave Grohl exacted some long overdue revenge on the guy who beat the Foos leader at his 9th grade Battle of the Bands.

Before Grohl invited Chett Lott -- a Kentucky-based musician and the son of former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott -- to stage to cover “Under Pressure,” he recalled the day their rivalry began.

“It was the greatest day of my life,” Grohl said (via NBC News). “If my band can go on to win the Battle of the Bands, I would surely go on to become the greatest living rock star of all time. We knew there were other bands, but we knew they couldn’t compete with our band.

But that wasn’t the case. Instead, Lott’s band beat out Grohl’s as reigning Battle of the Bands champs at the Alexandria, Va.-based Thomas Jefferson High School in 1983.

“We f---ing lost the Battle of the Bands,” Grohl said. “Tonight, the man that beat me in the high school Battle of the Bands -- don’t boo him, he’s a good man, evidently a better f---ing musician than I am -- if you’re around here somewhere, get your ass up here!”

It only took 30 years, but Grohl was finally able to serve Lott his comeuppance. Lott told the Foo Fighters frontman, “I may have won the battle, but you won the war,” before Grohl had him sit at “the foot of my throne” to sing the David Bowie and Queen classic.
