Additional Information

On Thursday, Feb.19, the Bozeman Doc Series will present the Montana premiere of the award-winning documentary "Spartacus and Cassandra."

A powerful chronicle of a little documented culture, the film follows two Roma children as they struggle with a decision that will absolutely alter the course of their lives.

The Roma, referred to often as gypsies, today constitute Europe’s largest minority. Dispersed throughout the continent, and widely discriminated against, many Roma live in slums and on the streets scraping out a meager existence.

After years on the streets with their parents, Spartacus and Cassandra are taken in by a young trapeze artist in a circus on the outskirts of Paris. Offering a stable home and a chance to attend school, it is a haven of fragile peace for this 13- and 11-year-old brother and sister. Torn between this new destiny and a nomadic life with their parents, Spartacus and Cassandra must choose.

Shot in classic observational style, the film world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews.

"A real gem...the children are fascinating subjects...Nuguet shoots with an impressionistic verité style that is at once both lyrical and stark.” - Cinevue

“A beautiful, beautiful film… with empathy, the filmmaker has composed a loving and difficult, marvelous film.” - France Inter

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the films begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or before the show at Cactus Records and Movie Lovers.
