Classic ballet and contemporary dance battle it out in Tutu Cool at The Ellen.

The third annual Tutu Cool, a celebration of dance, returns to The Ellen Theatre on Saturday, May 12th.
This eclectic mix of classical ballet and modern dance presents toe-to-toe action and has been an audience
favorite the last two years. The 2012 program promises to “raise the barre” and deliver a knockout punch
at an even higher level as a variety of top choreographers and dancers from Portland, Helena, Boise
and Bozeman converge on The Ellen stage.

Sallyann Mulcahy, former prima ballerina with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and featured in this month’s national Dance Magazine, will present two substantial works, “Stormseeker” and “Notes.” Mulcahy’s exceptionally talented dancers train full-time in Helena at Carroll College and perform the highest quality ballet. Idaho Regional Dance from Boise brings “Wayward Sisters”, a contemporary work showcasing three original and very different characters.

Creative Arts Center of Helena presents a version of their highly successful “The Journey”, a spiritual voyage,
and The Dance Center of Bozeman will feature rising star Hannah Rasker, a Bozeman native now dancing in Portland. Rasker is sure to delight with a contemporary solo and a new work created specifically for Tutu Cool.

The Dance Center, lead by executive director Deborah Yarington, will also perform its acclaimed modern piece “Aftershock” which highlights
local dancers in a demonstration of strength, expression and creativity.

Refreshments will be served in the lobby at 6:00 PM with the performance starting at 7:00 PM. Tickets to Tutu Cool, reasonably priced  at $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for students and children ages 17 and under, may be purchased online at www.theellentheatre.com. As the last two years of Tutu Cool have sold out, it is recommended to reserve seats ahead of time.
