Levels on the Milk River have risen quickly due to ice jams, prompting a Flood Watch for the area near Glasgow.

According to the National Weather Service:

THE FLOOD WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR A PORTION OF NORTHEAST MONTANA, INCLUDING CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN VALLEY.

  • TIMING - THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON
  • AN ICE JAM HAS FORMED ON THE MILK RIVER IN THE GLASGOW AREA.
  • THIS HAS CAUSED THE RIVER LEVEL TO RISE TO 21.3 FEET AS OF 11:30 AM SUNDAY.
  • FLOOD STAGE FOR THE MILK RIVER AT GLASGOW IS 25 FEET.
  • AN ICE JAM COULD PRODUCE A QUICK AND SUDDEN RISE IN RIVER LEVEL WITH FLOODING OCCURRING WITH LITTLE NOTICE.
  • THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.
