According to the Bozeman Police Department, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, a man was threatened at gunpoint while walking his dog in downtown Bozeman.

According to the report, the incident took place at the intersection of Wallace and Mendenhall.

The victim states that he was walking his dog northbound on Wallace, crossing Mendenhall, on the west side of the street.

He was walking his dog off leash, when the suspect, heading southbound on Wallace, made a left turn on Mendenhall. The suspect then stopped his vehicle in front of the victim and his dog, blocking the crosswalk, and began flailing his arms at the victim.

The victim states that at this time, he approached the suspect's vehicle and knocked on the front passenger window in an effort to engage the suspect, and see why he appeared angry. The suspect then pulled a dark-colored synthetic stock rifle from the passenger seat, and pointed it at the victim.

The suspect reportedly told the victim;

"If you touch my truck again, I will (expletive) kill you. If I see your dog off leash again, I will kill you and your dog."

The suspect then drove away westbound on Mendenhall. The victim stated that he feared for his safety as a result of the suspect's action. The victim was able to give responding officers the license plate number of the vehicle.

Officers responded to the Bozeman home of the suspect, and found the vehicle described in the incident parked in the garage. The suspect admitted that he let his temper "get the better of him," but repeatedly denied pointing a weapon at the victim.

The suspect informed officers that he was in possession of a dark colored synthetic stock hunting rifle that matched the description given by the victim.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect is due to appear in Gallatin County Justice Court on Monday, where he will be charged with felony assault with a weapon.
