The end of the seemingly endless summer is upon us, and September 2012 is shaping up to be a very busy month in the world of new music releases. Massive new albums from Dave Matthews Band, No Doubt and the first of a trilogy from Green Day are leading the charge on the mainstream side of things, while hot arrivals from Mumford and Sons, the Avett Brothers and Grizzly Bear showcase the newest releases in the indie world.

The gods of rock are smiling down us, indeed.

It’s an especially frenzied month of activity from acts that haven’t been in the spotlight for awhile. Dave Matthews Band’s ‘Away From the World’ is their first new one since 2009′s ‘Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King,’ and fans of the band are ecstatic. Cat Power‘s ‘Sun,’ meanwhile, is singer Chan Marshall’s first disc of original material since ‘The Greatest’ drooped in 2006. And that’s nothing compared to No Doubt, who bring ‘Push and Shove,’ their first new one in 11 long years.

Elsewhere, we’ve got much-anticipated new arrivals out of everybody from the Avett Brothers to the xx, and numerous more in between. Chances are you’ll be able to find something new from somebody you dig in September 2012. If not, maybe it’s time to confirm that you actually are a fan of rock music — that, or get your ears checked. To be honest, we can’t really think of another explanation.
