Nirvana’s ‘Incesticide’ to Get 25th Anniversary Vinyl Reissue

On Jan. 13, 2017, Geffen will release Nirvana’s b-sides and outtakes compilation, Incesticide, on vinyl in honor of the record’s 25th anniversary. It has been remastered from the original analog master tapes by Bernie Grundman.

You can pre-order Incesticide over at Amazon, and Spin notes that this is the second time the record has been reissued on vinyl. The band offered a limited-edition version in 2012 for Record Store Day.

Arriving in December 1992, only 15 months after Nevermind and eight months after Geffen gave a wider release to BleachIncesticide was a way for fans to catch up on a bunch of loose non-album tracks the band had recorded. This included “Sliver,” a single they cut in 1990 for Sub Pop, three covers from released-in-Japan-and-Australia Hormoaning EP and six songs recorded for the BBC. It contains five songs — Beeswax”, “Downer”, “Mexican Seafood”, “Hairspray Queen” and “Aero Zeppelin” — that were originally found on Nirvana’s first demo tape, which was recorded in January 1988 when Dale Crover of the Melvins was the drummer.

Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, calling himself “Kurdt Kobain,” created the cover artwork and wrote the liner notes, in which he said that he didn’t “feel the least bit guilty for commercially exploiting a completely exhausted Rock youth Culture because, at this point in rock history, Punk Rock (while still sacred to some) is, to me, dead and gone.”

Although the record went platinum, without heavy promotion from their label, Incesticide only peaked at No. 39.
