We’ve got a very special treat for you today — the exclusive premiere of a song by Noel Gallagher‘s High Flying Birds, entitled ‘Dream On.’ The track is taken from the former Oasis songwriter’s upcoming album, which is also called ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ and arrives on U.S. shores Nov. 8.

Gallagher’s love for classic rock acts such as the Beatles has been well documented. He recently revealed his new band name was jointly inspired by his love of Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac and the title of a Jefferson Airplane song.

He has certainly done those heroes proud with his music over the years, selling over 70 million copies of Oasis’s seven albums and carrying the songwriting traditions of classic rock into new modern territory. ‘Dream On’ is a fine example of this trademark alchemy, with its tastefully retro instrumentation, appealingly ramshackle rhythms and anthemic qualities.

Although the always-quotable Gallagher apparently and irreverently described ‘Dream On’ as a “throwaway” to NME, we agree with our British music reporting brethren when they say, “It’s a key song because it’s so goofy. It’s carefree and catchy as hell, the same way ‘Telegram Sam,’ ‘Hotel Yorba’ or — hah! — ‘She’s Electric’ were.” Besides, only someone with a rare combination of talent and self-imposed high standards could even jokingly dismiss the appeal of the song’s massive “Come on / Shout it out for me” chorus.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will launch a brief tour of American Nov. 11 in Philadelphia in support of their self-titled debut album. You can get more information about the tour and their new album at his official website.
