On Saturday (Oct. 17), Red Hot Chili Peppers played a brief acoustic set during a charity gig in L.A., and it included a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire.”

The annual RHCP-hosted concert benefits the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, and this year, its lineup boasted headliner John Legend and Kamasi Washington. For their part, the Chili Peppers played four catalog classics -- “By the Way,” “Sir Psycho Sexy,” “Californication” and “Around the World” -- plus the Hendrix cover. They didn’t, however, play anything from their upcoming 11th album, even though Anthony Kiedis recently told Rolling Stone their new material is “as good as any songs we’ve ever written.”

“The torture about doing this [show] is that we’ve been writing new music for the last year, and we’ve written some songs that I feel are as good as any songs we’ve ever written,” he said. “We’re just dying to play the new songs -- but we can’t, because every single human has a recording device on them at all times.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers are working on their latest album with Danger Mouse behind the boards. When it arrives, it follows 2011’s I’m With You.
