The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center is warning people about potential avalanches in the Southern Madison and Southern Gallatin ranges.

The danger level for these areas has been set at "high," or a Level 4 out of 5.

According to the GNFAC:

  • Continual heavy snow and wind are building on weak snowpacks.
  • It is likely that natural and/or human triggered avalanches will occur.
  • Dangerous avalanche conditions have been spotted and the danger is HIGH on all slopes in these areas.
