With the temperatures dropping and not a whole lot of snow, I've picked up one of my favorite winter activities of casual reading. I'm no book worm by any stretch of the imagination but I can for sure get lost in any good bit of literature. I've compiled my favorite places around Bozeman to crack open a book, magazine, or blog.

Safeway Fireplace Sitting Area

First of all there is a fireplace with a few comfy couches surrounding it. If these are taken up, there are numerous surrounding tables and half booths. These are especially convenient for laptop or tablet users. One of my favorite is the bar seating that faces the shopping aisles allowing great people watching during reading breaks. Did I mention there is a Starbucks literally 15 feet from the fireplace seating?

Leigh Lounge

If you're looking for some real peace and quite and a young atmosphere, I would head to Leigh Lounge in the MSU Sub. The couch filled room is notorious for sleeping students which can sometimes become contagious. But sometimes after reading, a good nap is pretty great.

Bozeman Public Library

Lots of books to read, super quiet and comes with a feeling of productivity. nothing feels better than going to the library on a Saturday. Instead of channel surfing or sleeping until 12, head to the library, pick up a classic you've been wanting to read, and lose yourself for a few hours. Great place to take the kids too with their new Children's Room. Just check out their website for a schedule.

Local Watering Hole

Just the other night I was at Ale Works sitting at the bar watching a BCS Bowl game and a few stools down from me was a patron reading a book on her Kindle with a glass of wine. I've got to admit I was a bit jealous. The football game was anything but entertaining and I had a great book at home that I was in the middle of and would have loved reading it with the ale I had ordered. Next time I guess.

Chairlift

Yes, I mean the chairlifts you find at ski resorts. Personally for me this is the worst part of skiing and snowboarding especially if you're skiing alone on an empty mountain. Why not bring a book up that you can read on the chair lift. Depending on your reading speed, you could probably get quite a ways through a good book by your last run of the day.
