Blowing and drifting snow will be an issue for the Helena, Montana area until Monday afternoon with extremely gusty winds possible.

According to the National Weather Service:

HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY EVENING THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON.

  • WINDS: SOUTHWEST 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 70 MPH.
  • TIMING: STRONG WEST TO SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL DEVELOP ALONG THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN FRONT AND ADJACENT PLAINS AREAS MONDAY NIGHT AND SPREAD EAST ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTH CENTRAL MONTANA ON MONDAY.
  • STRONGEST WINDS ARE LIKELY MONDAY AFTERNOON.
  • STRONG WINDS WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
  • ADDITIONAL TRAVEL HAZARDS ARE POSSIBLE DUE TO CONTINUED BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW WITH ASSOCIATED REDUCED VISIBILITY.
  • A HIGH WIND WATCH MEANS THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A HAZARDOUS AND POSSIBLY DAMAGING HIGH WIND EVENT.
