More Than 12″ Of Montana’s Famous Snow To Fall

The higher elevations of Montana could see well over a foot of fresh snow by Friday. Most counties have a storm warning  or watch in effect, and the valleys are expected to get 5" to 10" inches as well. Travel may become a serious issues during this storm.

This could be a big one for the state, not just because we need more snow in the mountains - but if it DOES end up being huge, getting around town with over 6" of snow could be a battle.

NOTE: Some areas are expected to get significant wind along with the heavy snow. Travel in these areas could be especially treacherous at times. If you'll be driving or flying, be prepared to adjust plans if necessary. According to the National Weather Service:

• A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM WEDNESDAY TO 5 AM FRIDAY.
• WHAT...Heavy snow expected.
• Total snow accumulations between 6 and 9 inches at lower elevations and between 7 and 14 inches at higher elevations.
• WHERE...Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains.
• WHEN...From 11 PM this evening to 5 AM Friday.
• IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

• North to east winds 10 to 20 mph develop Thursday night.
• WHERE...Elk City, Highway 12 Lowell to Lolo Pass, and Dixie.
• WHEN...Until 7 AM Friday.
• IMPACTS...Travel could be affected.
• The slick conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.
• The raw conditions may affect young animals.
