Brother Ali, a strong, gifted political voice in Hip Hop, stopped by Cactus Records yesterday before his show at the Zebra Cocktail Lounge for a free in-store performance. Ali, who is signed to the independent label Rhymesayers Entertainment, stressed the importance of supporting endangered independently owned record stores, such as Cactus, before signing autographs and taking pictures with fans.
In the current age of iTunes and digital downloading, record stores are becoming extremely endangered. Help save Cactus Records and enjoy a great night of live entertainment on Thursday, May 17th. I've recently started collecting records, a surprisingly addicting hobby. I've been buying vinyl all around town and online too. Tomorrow marks the 5th anniversary Record Store Day, a celebration of record stores around the world that help fuel the worlds love for music. Cactus Records in Bozeman is throwing another grande soiree with tons of live performances and Record Store Day products.
Record Store Day, officially founded in 2007, is an internationally celebrated day observed on the third Saturday of April each year. It's when we come together to celebrate the art of music at an independently owned record store. There are currently over 700 of those in the U.S. Cactus Records, here in Bozeman, is one of them!
Once the digitalness of the world takes over completely, it's my prediction that the only hard copy forms of music you will be purchasing from the store will be vinyl records. I can already see the music sections just being kiosks to plug your mp3 players into and download songs you decide to purchase. I've gotten myself ready with a brand new record player and a map of all the places you can buy records in Bozeman.

As part of their Winter Tour 2011, Railroad Earth stops in Bozeman on Thursday, March 24th. Railroad Earth with very special guest, Infamous Stringdusters make this a show not to be missed.
