– An official lineup for the official closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games has not been announced, but Muse revealed that they will be performing at the event. Makes sense, considering that they also recorded ‘Survival,’ the official song of the games.
Earlier this year, the Red Hot Chili Peppers announced plans to unleash a whole wealth of new music the old-fashioned way: on vinyl. In fact, a total of nine 7-inch vinyl singles featuring 18 previously unreleased outtakes recorded while the band was making its ‘By the Way’ album are due in total, and the first release — with ‘Strange Man’ as the A-side and ‘Long Progression’ the B-side — drops this Friday (Aug. 10).
– Beck, Dan Deacon, Amon Tobin, Memory Tapes and ex-Battles member Tyondai Braxton are among the musicians contributing to ‘Rework: Philip Glass Remixed,’ a compilation album featuring a dozen remixes and alternate versions of tunes from the contemporary composer. The disc drops Oct. 23.
Three years after issuing their breakthrough, double-platinum certified and award-winning debut album, ‘Sigh No More,’ Mumford and Sons are gearing up for the release of their follow-up, ‘Babel.’ Ahead of that disc’s Sept. 24 release date comes its first single, ‘I Will Wait.’
There was a time not too long ago it seemed Florence + the Machine‘s summer was going be over before it really hit its stride. Singer Florence Welch was dealing with a vocal illness, which had sidelined the band and forced the cancellation of several dates. Lucky for fans, Welch was able to rest up, and before anybody knew it she was all better and back on the road. Perhaps the biggest benefactors of that recovery was the massive crowd that caught Florence + the Machine at Lollapalooza on Saturday (Aug. 5) in Chicago.
The Hold Steady‘s Craig Finn and Tad Kubler, Vampire Weekend‘s Chris Tomson and singer-songwriter Cass McCombs are among the musicians on board to perform during Move Me Brightly, a Jerry Garcia tribute concert that will be streaming live from TRI Studios tonight (Friday, Aug. 3) at 6:30PM PST / 9:30PM ET. The late Grateful Dead legend would have turned 70 today this week, and Dead guitarist Bob Weir organized the gig at his TRI Studios in San Rafael, Calif. to celebrate the life of his former bandmate.
The Killers have a new album on the way called ’Battle Born’ and a new single out — and now a fancy new video to go along with it. ‘Runaways’ is the first track released off ‘Battle Born,’ which is due out in October and follows on the trails of the band’s last album, 2008′s ‘Day and Age.’ ”Frontman Brandon Flowers is an excellent voice in telling the story of a teenage love that led to a shotgun wedding and is threatening to fall apart years later,” reads Diffuser's review of the tune.
Lana Del Rey‘s breakthrough hit ‘Video Games’ has spawned countless covers by amateur artists on YouTube and a handful of versions from like-minded musicians like Amanda Palmer and Kasabian, but surprisingly few cover attempts from high-profile crossover artists. That recently changed thanks to Boy George’s just-released ‘Video Games’ video, which takes the tune into a whole new sonic territory.
Talk about hype! When it was announced that Jack White had teamed up with acclaimed hip-hop director extraordinaire Hype Williams for the video accompanying ‘Freedom at 21,’ a song off White’s ‘Blunderbuss’ solo album, the possibilities seemed endless. The teaser clip, which dropped last week, seemed to prove that all the anticipation would be lived up to. And now that the full video is here, see for yourself just what this meeting of the minds brings to the table.
You may already know that indie rockers the xx will release their new album ‘Coexist’ on Sept. 11 through Young Turks, and you may have even heard a few snippets of songs bound for the disc. But have you been wondering what the album cover will look like, what the track listing will be or what the platter’s first single will be titled? Look no further!
Ryan Adams is known for being a seriously prolific writer and recording musician — he’s released three full-length albums in just the last two years — but it looks like his next project may not be a follow-up to his most recent solo album, last year’s ‘Ashes and Fire.’ In fact, Adams may be focusing his current attention on the next disc from his wife, the actress and pop singer Mandy Moore, who is apparently working on new material for a sequel to her own latest release, 2009′s ‘Amanda Leigh.’
