Last month, Arcade Fire honored one of their musical heroes with a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” You can watch the fan-shot video above.

The occasion was the WayHome Music Festival at the Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, Canada on July 23, the day after their set at the inaugural Panorama Festival in New York. The clip shows them performing the last verse and chorus of Springsteen’s hit before immediately launching into “Keep the Car Running,” which appeared on their second album, Neon Bible. With songs like “Keep the Car Running” and “Intervention,” that record suggested that band leader Win Butler was heavily influenced by Springsteen’s 1984 blockbuster, Born in the U.S.A.

The big, anthemic rock sound of Neon Bible didn’t go unnoticed by Springsteen. In October 2007, during a tour stop at the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, he brought out Butler and Regine Chassagne to sing “State Trooper” and “Keep the Car Running” to begin the encore. A month later, Springsteen and Butler appeared together for a cover story in Spin, where Springsteen said that what he liked about Arcade Fire was the sense of community they have. "The first time I saw you guys, I thought, 'There’s a whole town going on up there, a whole village onstage,'" he said. "There’s an imagined world you’ve made visual in front of your fans’ eyes, and it’s a really lovely thing."

Arcade Fire have no more upcoming live dates, and it’s possible they’ll be looking to do some recording in the near future. Back in June, Will Butler suggested in a Reddit AMA that their next record could be out “[p]robly (sic) next spring? No definite schedule though. It’ll be done when it’s done.” When it does, it will be their fifth record and first since 2013’s Reflektor.
