The Avett Brothers caused a wave of excitement to ripple through the crowd at Bonnaroo when they performed a new song called ‘Winter in My Heart’ on Friday evening.

According to Rolling Stone, the N.C.-based band first unveiled the brand-new tune at a show on Thursday night and admitted to feeling a bit dodgy about playing it the following day at Bonnaroo. However, they decided to stick with their gut instinct and ultimately delivered a soulful, energized performance of their new song without incident.

Perhaps the festival in Manchester, Tenn. was a perfect setting to acclimate fans to their new music. As Scott Avett remarked, it was “a good venue because it is kinda such a mess and there’s so much going on, so much color.”

The Avett Brothers balanced out their show by mixing in the old with the new. They played some songs from their 2007 album ‘Emotionalism’ as well as quite a few fan favorites from their 2009 studio release ‘I and Love and You.’ A complete set list from Friday night’s show can be found here.
