Bobcats Headed to the FCS Semi-Finals; Beat Austin Peay 24-10
For the first time since 1984, The Montana State Bobcats are headed to the FCS semi-finals after defeating Austin Peay 24-10 Friday night in Bozeman.
The Bobcats dominated in nearly every statistical category. Still, the Governors managed to make it a game on a cold, and even for a short time, snowy night at Bobcat Stadium.
Montana State scored on just their third play from scrimmage when Isaiah Ifanse ran for a 60-yard TD. A Tristan Bailey 45-yard field goal later in the first quarter would give the Bobcats a 10-0 lead.
The Governors finally got on the scoreboard just before the end of the first half with a 38-yard field goal, but the Bobcats came out inspired in the second half, scoring on a Tucker Rovig 5 yard pass to Kevin Kassis, and an Isiah Ifanse 5-yard pass to Jason Scrempos to take a 24-3 lead.
Austin Peay connected on a 76-yard TD pass at the beginning of the 4th quarter, but that would be the last time they would see the endzone, sending the Bobcats to the FCS semi-finals next weekend.
The Bobcats now await the winner of North Dakota State & Illinois State on Saturday in Fargo. If the Bison win, the Cats will travel to the Fargodome to play North Dakota State next Saturday. If Illinois State wins, the Bobcats will host the Redbirds at Bobcat Stadium.
