Looking for a free and fun outdoor activity for kids in Bozeman? The Bozeman Police Department is hosting Cops and Bobbers, an annual free fishing day for children 12 and under.

Cops and Bobbers is a free community event at Bozeman Pond Park (550 S. Fowler Ave.) on Monday, June 29, 2026. The event is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. It's a great opportunity for kids to spend time with local law enforcement while enjoying one of Montana's favorite outdoor pastimes.

It also teaches kids about fishing and encourages them to spend more time outdoors during the summer, rather than being stuck inside on electronic devices. Fishing gear will be provided, but families are advised to arrive early and bring their own fishing gear if possible.

Bozeman Police officers will be on hand to assist kids with baiting hooks

As a kid, there was nothing that I wanted to do more than go fishing with my dad. It seemed like he always had some sort of fishing trip planned. Some of my favorite memories from fishing trips, and now families in Bozeman will have the opportunity to make lifelong memories ot their own.

It's on a Monday, so some people may have to work, but I can't think of a better reason to take a day off than to go fishing with your kids. Plus, it's free. The weather forecast is calling for highs in the mid-50s, so it might be a good idea to bring an extra layer of clothing or a jacket if needed.

You can find out more about Cops & Bobbers on the City of Bozeman website.
