Something that Montanans can be incredibly proud of is the enormous pool of musical talent that has created symphony orchestras across the entire state...and it all started in Butte.

It's quite extraordinary for a state with just over a million people. You can get a dose of big-city culture in just about every city in Montana. Those towns and cities that don't have their own symphony will generally book a yearly series of appearances from the others.

Below, you'll find a full list of cities across Montana that have their own symphony orchestras, along with central gathering places for symphony lovers. There's so much to enjoy! From Billings and Bozeman to Kalispell and Great Falls...there's a performance near you.

A Symphony Orchestra is defined as a large ensemble composed of wind, string, brass and percussion instruments and organized to perform classical music. Wind instruments include flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoons. String instruments include harp, violin, viola, cello, and double bass.

Consider our Montana symphonies as one of the BENEFITS of the rapid influx of people moving here. Although some Montana towns have had award-winning groups for decades, the addition of new people from bigger cities and larger talent pools is really a bonus.
