And David Letterman’s Second-to-Last Musical Guest Will Be … Eddie Vedder
UPDATE: It looks like the internet was premature in declaring Vedder as the final guest. Bob Dylan will serve as the last musical guest of Letterman's career. Details here.
It's hard to believe, but we are just days away from David Letterman signing off from the CBS airwaves. Following an impressive final run of musical guests, we've just learned that Letterman will say farewell to the Late Show with Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder serving as the last-ever musician to grace the late-night TV set.
Vedder is set to perform with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra on Monday, May 18. On Tuesday, Bill Murray will be the special guest (with no musical guest) and Wednesday, the last Late Show with David Letterman ever, promises to be full of surprises.
We won't be surprised if some of those surprises find their way into Monday night's episode; it wouldn't be a huge shock if Vedder collaborates with another musician during the show. No matter what happens, though, it will likely be one of the most memorable moments in Vedder's life, a man who has already experienced more than we'll ever know. And for Letterman, it's extra special as Vedder and Pearl Jam have been longtime friends of the show.
Tom Waits is scheduled to appear tonight (May 14), with no announced musical guests on the docket for tomorrow night's show.
