They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and what some folks might see as a hunk of junk, others might see as a diamond in the rough.  So when I came across a list of the 20 Worst Places To Live In Montana by Money Inc, I was a little hesitant to share.

As I said, certain people like certain things, and while someone from a small town might not desire all of the things a big city has to offer, it might be a bit more difficult for someone from a big city to settle into a smaller town, so you kind of have to take all of this with a grain of salt.

So what are the factors in deciding whether a town makes the Worst Places To Live list?

According to Money Inc, it's the following.

"Some of the factors that are considered when deciding if an area is a good place to live or not are the crime rates, the public school rating, unemployment rates, median household incomes, home values, and the range of leisure and entertainment opportunities in an area."

So keeping that in mind, let us take a look at the list of towns that "the experts" found to be the worst places to live in Montana, starting with number 20 and working our way down to number 1.

  • Hamilton

  • Hardin

Let me say that I don't agree with the list. The towns of Hamilton and Livingston are two of my favorite places and cities like Kalispell and Missoula are growing at a pretty quick pace. Are there a couple of towns on the list that could use a little help?

Sure, but that's always going to be the case.

The truth is housing is expensive here in Montana, but it seems to be that way all over the nation, and as far as leisure and entertainment, I'm not sure if anyone informed the folks that compiled the list, but people come here all year long to enjoy all that Montana has to offer especially the outdoors.

As far as the job market goes, while certain areas are certainly more sparse than in other parts of the state, several areas, including a few on the list are hotbeds for jobs. So what do you think? Do you agree with the list, or do you think it's way off?
