New Form of Dangerous Drug Popping Up All Over Montana

Law enforcement is doing all it can to get this dangerous drug off the streets and out of Montanan's hands, but there is still a long way to go.

Montana has seen a surge in fentanyl-related deaths and crimes throughout the past year. In December, several Montana law enforcement agencies and a few federal agencies teamed up and had a massive drug bust that included thousands of fentanyl-laced pills.

Fentanyl typically comes in pill form and is categorized as the deadliest drug in America right now, and Montana officials are worried that the drug is taking another form.

NBC Montana reports the Montana Attorney General is concerned that fentanyl has taken a new form that might be harder to identify for law enforcement officials.

Fentanyl is easily identified in pill form, but recently, law enforcement has encountered fentanyl in powder form, and that form can be even more dangerous. In powder form, fentanyl can become a toxic aerosol if inhaled by anyone.

Drug dealers usually lace cocaine with fentanyl, and users have no idea because there is no difference in color or texture. If drug dealers are now packing fentanyl in powder form, this is a new avenue law enforcement officials will have to be aware of to be safe.

If you don't know, fentanyl has become a massive problem in Montana. Fentanyl seizures by law enforcement have increased over, and this is not a joke, 11,000% since 2019.

That's an astronomical number and should frighten many Montanans. We need to stay vigilant and safe from this deadly drug. Montana law enforcement is doing all it can to get this deadly drug off the street, but drug traffickers are inventing new ways to avoid detection.
