Great News For Montana. Not Great For Remote Out Of State Workers.
As we all know, housing sucks in Bozeman and almost all throughout Montana, to be honest. The biggest complaint is the price of rentals and homes, and I get it, my rent has also increased. The other complaint is the waiting lists. If you are planning on moving here, you HAVE to have housing set up prior, which could mean you need to apply months in advance.
Another common grumbling amongst the people is all of the new businesses and buildings that are popping up. Recently I read an article about a development that will be going next to Story Mill Park and this could be a real game changer.
The development is one that the people of Bozeman AND Montana can appreciate and is a great step toward saying, "we appreciate Montanans". The project will have 62 affordable living situations. 31 apartments and 31 homes that are market-rate homes.
Not, this affordable housing does come with some stipulations, which I honestly think most people will be OK with.
First off, this is a great way to have some diversity of incomes in neighborhoods. Let's be real for a minute. When you put all income-based rentals in one area and the million-dollar listings in another area, it's not good for any market. If you have different priced homes throughout, the market will be able to level out some and in the long run, home prices will make more sense for those looking to purchase.
Secondly, I think is a HUGE step in the right direction. Think for a minute how many times you have heard "California is ruining Montana, all these rich people coming here and paying ridiculous prices for homes and they DON'T EVEN WORK HERE".
Yes, it's not pleasant, but it's what is happening here and in other states for that matter. Just a side note, it's not JUST Californians doing this. IN ORDER TO LIVE AND PURCHASE THESE HOMES, YOU MUST MAKE 75% OF YOUR INCOME IN THE STATE OF MONTANA.
So you have a chance of staying in your state and not being pushed out by high prices. You can say, "I work here, I live here, and I'm not going anywhere". This is just the start of getting the "old Montana back", in a modern way.
Phase one of the project is set to be available and open this fall.
