Is It Time To Come Together And Save This Bozeman Landmark?

I work about half a block away from the old Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

The beautiful old building is in the process of coming down and I, for one, am sad about it. I'm a lover of the old style and while I certainly appreciate the new and modern buildings that are quickly becoming part of the Bozeman landscape, I, like many others, worry that we're losing our history.

I mean think about this, how many folks took either their first breath or their last breath in that building over the years?

For thousands of people, the old hospital holds the best moments of their lives as well as some of the worst, and if you ask me, that certainly means something. I understand that time moves on and we can't always save everything, but couldn't we try to save a part of something that has meant so much to so many over the years?

One of the most prominent features of the old Deaconess Hospital is the pillars in the front of the building.  Now, I have no idea if there are any plans for those pillars and maybe there are, but if there aren't, what if we were to relocate them someplace else?

Hear me out on this one.

What if we were to take those magnificent pillars and give them new life?  How great would it be to place them in one of our beautiful parks here in Bozeman? I can see it in my mind.  Placed in a prominent area, surrounded by a flower garden or two. Not only would it be a great place to go and just enjoy, but it would be perfect for weddings, senior pictures, or family photos. Heck, you could even decorate the pillars for Christmas.

A little garland and lights wrapped around them would get anyone in the holiday spirit.

I'll be honest with you, I have no idea how much it would cost to save the pillars, and then put down a foundation to relocate them, however, I'm certainly willing to throw some money towards the cause, and I'm guessing I'm not the only one. I mean, Bozemanites love a cause and I think this is a wonderful cause that would allow a piece of our city's history to live on for generations to come.

So if there are no plans for them, can we all agree to come together and make this happen before it's too late?
