This is outrageous!

I understand that to many, Montana is some sort of isolated place where only cowboys and grizzly bears live. Oh sure, we have Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, but other than that, there isn't much to see.

Now, I realize that for many of you, you don't hate that idea. The less publicized we are here, the better and I tend to agree, most of the time. However, in this case, I'm a little upset with the "experts"

St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner and as you may or may not know, Butte is the most Irish city in the country when it comes down to an actual percentage of the population that is Irish. Oh, and if you've ever been to Butte, you know they take that heritage very seriously.

Why is the Butte St. Patrick's Day Parade so popular?

There are bagpipers, green beer, historic cars, floats and all kinds of shenanigans. After the parade it is off to one of the many authentic Irish pubs where the party continues into the wee hours of the night. So, you would think that when it comes to the best places to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, Butte would be on the list, right?

Wrong.

The folks over at WalletHub came out with a list of The Best Cities For St. Patrick's Day and out of 200 cities, Butte is no where on the list. In fact, not one Montana town made it. I'm sorry, but this is some BS. How do you make a list about that best places for St. Patrick's Day and not include Butte?

Better yet, how do you come up with a list of 200 towns and not include Butte. According to the data, this is what went into determining the list:

  • St. Patrick Day Parade
  • Length of St. Patrick's Day history
  • Share of Irish population
  • Irish Pubs per capita
  • Crime Rate
  • DUI's
  • Weather

Ugh, we were doing so well until those bottom three. Still, to have a list of 200 towns and cities that celebrate St. Patrick's Day and not include Butte is still total malarkey.

It's not a big secret that Montana has a few issues with drinking. We have high rates of DUI incidents, and Gallatin County was named the drunkest county in the entire United States.
