Popular Downtown Bozeman Breakfast Spot Says Goodbye

For many folks living in Bozeman, change is hard.

Over the last few years, it seems that Bozeman has become more of a "destination" than a place to call home for some. Locals complain of the new construction and how it all looks the same. They talk about all of the national chains that have made their way to town, it's just not the same Bozeman that it once was.

One of the saving graces is there are still several of the local businesses around town. The type of place that has been a fixture in the community for decades. You know the type, where you can walk in and you see familiar faces and people know you by your first names.

Unfortunately, we lost one of those types of places in downtown Bozeman.

Back in 2020, Mashed ranked it as the best breakfast spot in Montana. However, there is a sign at the property at 312 E. Main that reads "Permanently Closed". While the restaurants Instagram page states "Temporally Closed"

It seems that the Nova Cafe in downtown Bozeman has made it's last meal according to KBZK. The Nova Cafe opened back in 2005 and quickly became a downtown staple. With tons of positive reviews, folks raved about their food, and now it seems, all of that is a memory.

It's hard to say goodbye to a long time business and as far as why the Cafe closed, we can only speculate. Was the rent too expensive? Was it the higher cost of food? Did the owners simply tire of working so many hours? Who knows. What is known is that owning and operating a restaurant is not an easy task, even an established one.

The good news is there are still wonderful places to grab breakfast in downtown Bozeman.

There is the Western, Jam, Main Street Over Easy, and the Cateye Cafe just to name a few. So for those of you who are looking for great customer service and a delicious meal, you have options, but, it's still hard tough to lose a friend.
