On July 4, 2024, a man armed with a semi-automatic rifle opened fire at a dining facility in Yellowstone National Park. The shooter, identified as Samson Lucas Bariah Fussner, was killed in an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement rangers.

The incident began with a domestic disturbance involving Fussner and his girlfriend, who reported his threats of a mass shooting. Park rangers responded to the scene and located Fussner, engaging him in a shootout near Canyon Lodge. One ranger was injured but later released from the hospital.
