Brent Vigen is a Potential Candidate For Big Head Coaching Job
Montana State Football Head Coach Brent Vigen has been named a potential candidate for a vacant head coaching position at Boise State University following the termination of their coach Andy Avalos.
According to multiple sources, Brent Vigen is a potential candidate for the opening. Boise State needs a new football coach, and Vigen has been incredibly successful at Montana State. As of this writing, Vigen is only a potential candidate, and he hasn't been offered the job.
Vigen was included on a list of six potential candidates in an article published Monday by The Athletic. Here's what the article said about Brent Vigen.
Montana State head coach Brent Vigen is 32-7 in two-plus seasons, reaching the FCS national championship in 2021 and the semifinal in 2022 after filling the job left by Choate. Before that, he was a Wyoming assistant for seven seasons and a North Dakota State assistant for 16 years. He knows the Mountain West, the region and he’s got head coaching experience.
Athlon Sports also included Brent Vigen on its list of potential candidates for the head coaching gig at Boise State.
Vigen doesn't have any experience at Boise State, but he's familiar with the Mountain West from his time at Wyoming (2014-20). Montana State has thrived under Vigen's direction, going 32-8 since the '21 season. The Bobcats played for the FCS title in '21 and made the FCS Semifinals last year.
In addition to Vigen, former Montana State Head Coach Jeff Choate was also named as a potential candidate. Other candidates include Kellen Moore, Kirby Moore, Bryan Harsin, and Ryan Grubb.
We don't want anyone to start freaking out, but considering the success that Brent Vigen has had at Montana State, it's no surprise to learn that he's being looked at by bigger college football programs. We want Vigen to stay at Montana State for as long as possible.
