Sweet baby Jesus, I can't wait for summertime and the opportunity to "get my ass over the pass" as they like to say.  Who knows where we'll be with social distancing at that point. Perhaps we will still be encouraged to stay six feet away from people. I can deal with that, I guess. Everyone in the picture above will just have to step a few feet further apart.

The Beartooth Highway runs 68 miles from Red Lodge to Cooke City and is designated a National Scenic Byways “All-American Road. According to a 2012-13 economic impact study, over 170,000 nonresident travel groups in the summer season and 16,000 nonresident travel groups in the winter season visited the Beartooth Highway Region. Bringing an estimated $53 million in revenue to the area.

Clearing the snow in time for a Memorial Day weekend opening is a huge endeavor. Transportation crews say drifts can be as deep as 26 feet at some of the higher elevations. MDOT released this video yesterday (4/27).

I salute those workers that are tasked with clearing the pass. I'm sure it's likely quite safe, but portions of it look terrifying. I would be freaking out about sliding over the edge. Hopefully, the snow removal continues on schedule and we'll be able to take one of south-central Montana's favorite road trips soon.
