Seasons are changing in Montana, and that means it's time for more sunshine and longer days. Here's what you need to know about Daylight saving time.

Daylight saving time starts this Sunday, March 8, at 2:00 a.m. Even though we're losing an hour of sleep, the good news is that it will get dark later, and give Montanans a chance to enjoy more sunshine. Before you go to bed on Saturday night, you'll want to set all of your clocks ahead one hour.

One of the things I'm most excited about is later sunsets and being able to take my dog for a walk after 5:00 p.m. without having to use a headlamp. The time change is also great news for Montana's agricultural industry, and gives farmers and ranchers a little more daylight to get work done.

There's something about longer days and sunshine that improves your mood. More daylight in the evening means better visibility for folks who commute to work in Montana. It also gives kids more time to play outside and burn off energy after school.

Monday morning may be a bit rough because we're losing an hour of sleep, but I'm focusing on the advantages of daylight saving time in Montana. I'm excited for sunsets after 7:00 p.m. and more time to spend outdoors in Montana. Remember to "Spring Forward" this weekend, and set your clocks one hour ahead before bedtime on Saturday night.
