Neil Young to Induct Pearl Jam Into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The 25-year history between Pearl Jam and Neil Young will reach a new apex on April 7. That's when the man dubbed the "Godfather of Grunge" will induct his famous acolytes into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
This news comes via a press release from the Hall, where they also revealed that Jackson Browne will induct folk singer Joan Baez, and Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush will do the same honor for Yes. Those who will perform and/or present the other inductees -- Journey, ELO, Nile Rodgers and Tupac Shakur -- will be announced at a later date. An exhibit about all of the inductees is scheduled to open at the Hall's Cleveland location on March 31.
Young and Pearl Jam met in October 1992 at the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert, and, a few weeks later, they played his annual Bridge School Benefit, which they've played on eight other occasions since. The next year, Young joined them onstage during the MTV Video Music Awards to perform his "Rockin' in the Free World, a song they still regularly cover. In 1995, Pearl Jam served as Young's backing band for Mirror Ball.
For the third year in a row, the Induction Ceremony will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning next Friday (Feb. 3) at 10AM Eastern at Ticketmaster. However, Citi Cardmembers have access to a pre-sale at Citi Private Pass that will run from Monday, Jan. 30 at 10AM Eastern through Feb. 2 at 10PM Eastern. Prices start at $50, and there are also VIP packages available. The Ceremony will be shown at a later date on HBO, with a radio broadcast over SiriusXM. Complete details about the broadcast are forthcoming.
