Jacksonville-based singer/songwriter JJ Grey will release his seventh album, This River, on Tuesday, April 16. This is Grey's first studio album since 2010's acclaimed Georgia Warhorse, and I can hardly wait for more Southern swamp funk and soul!

You may have heard JJ Grey & Mofro's first single off This River, "99 Shades of Crazy", on 95-1 The Moose. Grey is one of music's best storytellers, and "99 Shades of Crazy" is a true indication that we can expect more of his genius poured into the new album. Grey had this to say,

Many of the new songs are about being your own worst enemy, and about normal folks pushing themselves over the edge. I see a little bit of myself in these songs. The difference is in the choices people make. I took my time and I'm happy for it.

Look out for This River on April 16, and expect more great songwriting, gritty vocals, soulful guitar riffs and punchy horn arrangements! JJ Grey & Mofro are getting ready to play the new stuff live when they kick off a new tour next month. Check out jjgrey.com for dates (unfortunately, I don't see any MT dates here).
