Stream Primus’ New ‘Desaturating Seven’ Album
Primus return this week with The Desaturating Seven, a new song suite inspired by the Italian children's book The Rainbow Goblins.
As previously reported, the Desaturating Seven LP marks the band's first full-length studio recording of original material since 2011's Green Naugahyde — and the current Primus lineup's first album since 1995's Tales From the Punchbowl. Available in an array of physical or digital editions, the record is up on streaming services now — including Spotify, through which you can listen to the entire album via the below embed.
"I think with the way the world is right now, it's very relevant," frontman Les Claypool told Rolling Stone regarding the band's decision to use the book as the inspiration for their new album. "The notion of gluttony and those that have taking more than their share from those that don't."
While he laughingly admitted it's "very difficult to sing about goblins and rainbows and not have it come off being a little cornball," Claypool was eager to take on the challenge of adapting a work he's long admired. "I remember being incredibly impressed with the artwork and the storyline and the content and the message, and I thought, 'Wow, this would make a great piece of music,'" he explained. "As I'm getting older, I'm realizing I need to start knocking some of these things off my list."
Primus will support the release of The Desaturating Seven will a fall tour set to begin Oct. 20 in San Antonio and run through mid-November; the band will return to the stage for a pair of year-ending shows at the Wiltern in Los Angeles in late December.
