R.E.M. is preparing a 25th anniversary edition of their 1991 album Out of Time that will arrive on Nov. 18. Today (Sept. 6), they teased it with one of the previously unreleased songs, a demo of “Radio Song.”

The track is streaming at NPR, and you can listen to it below. It’s very similar to the familiar version in that the chiming guitar intro and organ parts are in place, but there is no rap from KRS-ONE and no drums. However, Bill Berry makes his presence felt when he takes over lead vocal chores at 1:16.

This version appears on the second disc of the set, along with 18 other demos, including two stabs on “Losing My Religion,” “Near Wild Heaven” and “Shiny Happy People.” Based on the track listing, three of Out of Time’s songs, “Endgame,” “Half a World Away” and “Me in Honey” began life as, respectively, “Slow Sad Rocker,” “Blackbirds” and “Me on Keyboard.”

A Deluxe Edition adds two more discs, their performance from NPR’s Live at Mountain Stage, one of the only promotional appearances they did for the record — MTV Unplugged was another — a Blu-ray that has hi-resolution and and 5.1 surround sound mixes of Out of Time, the videos and the original electronic press kit called “Time Piece.” Annie Zaleski, a frequent contributor to Diffuser, wrote the liner notes.

Upon its original release, Out of Time sold four million copies and spawned Top 10 singles in "Losing My Religion" and "Shiny Happy People." "Radio Song" reached No. 48 on the Mainstream Rock chart.
