The Flaming Lips WIll Be Miley Cyrus’ Band on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Like it or not, the Flaming Lips' creative dalliance with Miley Cyrus continues. And the two are taking the next big step in their relationship tonight, as the band are reportedly set to appear on Saturday Night Live supporting Cyrus, who is scheduled to host.
The performance will mark the Flaming Lips' first-ever appearance on SNL, which begins its 40th season tonight. Frontman Wayne Coyne posted a photo of Cyrus on his Instagram, including the caption: "T-shirt from the garage sale on its new owner!!! @mileycyrus !! Doin SNL!!"
Which makes sense, of course -- the band collaborated with Cyrus on the recording of her surprise mind-screw of an album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz. And according to Cyrus' interview on the Tonight Show, they're going to support the pot-loving, pro-nipple pop star on her Dead Petz tour later this year.
Cyrus and Coyne's friendship began with a Happy Birthday tweet, continued through the recording of Dead Petz, and culminated with Cyrus' hosting gig at the VMAs, during which Coyne shot a confetti canon from between her legs.
