U2, Sting and Cage the Elephant to Play the 2016 iHeartRadio Festival
The lineup for the sixth annual iHeartRadio Festival has been released. The diverse collection of talent brought together for this year's installment, which will be held Sept. 23-24 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, include U2, Sting and Cage the Elephant.
The Internet and broadcast radio company announced the news yesterday (July 25), adding that Drake, Britney Spears, Florida Georgia Line, Billy Idol, Usher and Tears for Fears are among some of the other big names on the bill. Ryan Seacrest will be the host.
Once again, iHeartRadio has teamed up with the Global Citizen Festival, which will be held on the same weekend in New York's Central Park. Billboard says that the two concerts will be linked up as part of their effort to "“harness the power of music to fight inequality, protect our planet and end extreme poverty by 2030.”
U2 are currently working on the follow-up to 2014's Songs of Innocence. Although there is no release date announced, the Edge recently said, “We are still busting our ass to try to get it out this year. ... That’s our plan right now and exactly when, we’re not sure. Now a U2 album plan has been known to be revised. This is the working assumption. This is our ambition. It could change, but we’re really doing our best to get it out this year."
Sting just finished a tour with Peter Gabriel that saw the two stars merge bands and sing on each other's songs repeatedly over the course of the evening. One of the tour's last stops, at the Key Arena in Seattle, was graced by an appearance by Eddie Vedder, who duetted with Sting on the Police's "Driven to Tears" and Gabriel on "Red Rain."
Cage the Elephant are about to begin a two-week European tour that will focus heavily on festival dates. Their most recent album is 2015's Tell Me I'm Pretty, which was produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.
