If your family is sick of hibernating and ready to get off the couch and do something fun, it's time to get stoked for Winter Games Day at Glacier Ice Rink. You can try things you've only seen on TV, like "throwing teapots." That's what I call it when we see curling on the Olympics.

Winter Games Day is coming up on Saturday, February 12th at the Missoula Fairgrounds, the entrance to Glacier Ice Rink is on the Russell Street side. So after you get all inspired by the Winter Olympic Games you can try ice skating, curling, and hockey.

The GIR has "Try Skating" sessions specifically for beginners of all ages. Even if you've never put on a pair of skates before, coaches from the local Figure Skating Club will help out with some basic moves from 1 to 2 p.m. at the indoor rink. The class is 45 minutes and open to 60 skaters, pre-registration is required and it's only 5 bucks!

The "Try Curling" sessions are 30 minutes each and will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at the outdoor rink. These sessions are for older kids and adults with no curling experience and the Missoula Curling Club will be on hand to show you the basics. Each 30 minute session is limited to 24 participants, so again, pre-registration is required and it's $5 per person.

And finally, some hockey! Watch the "squirts" at 3 p.m., a scrimmage featuring 9 and 10-year-olds. The USA vs Canada adult game begins at 4 followed by the Missoula vs Helena Varsity game at 5:45 p.m.

And if you haven't been sledding yet this season, here are our favorite places to take the kids.
