Bozeman residents don't hold back when it comes to voicing frustration about all of the changes happening here. Buildings that have been around for decades are being torn down to make way for fancy new apartment complexes and condos. Historic neighborhoods are being leveled to the ground as developers forever change the things we know and love about Bozeman.

I understand that a lot of Bozeman is old and some places could definitely use some improvement, but completely erasing Bozeman's history is taking it too far.

If you live in Bozeman, you've most likely heard of Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital. Long before the new facility west of Highland Boulevard opened in 1986, the hospital was located on the corner of Tracy and Lamme. It was originally known as Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, and was founded in 1911. Prior to that, it was known as the Bozeman Sanitarium, and then the Blair Sanitarium.

The original Bozeman Deaconess Hospital finally closed in 1986, but the building has been used for a variety of purposes since. Up until late 2021, the building served as low-income housing for some Bozeman residents.

Sadly, the building is in the process of being demolished. Another piece of Bozeman's history has been sold off to the highest bidder and will soon be gone forever. Soon, the iconic building will be replaced with another multi-story apartment complex. It's truly heartbreaking to see what is happening to Bozeman. I wish there was something we could do to stop it.
