Beck returned to 'Saturday Night Live' last night and performed two songs from his just-released new album 'Morning Phase.' And while the performances weren't as epic as 'Clap Hands' from 2006, they were still pretty good.

Dressed simply in black with a pop of red and a spiffy hat, Beck kicked off his seventh 'SNL' performance with 'Blue Moon.' Even though we were somewhat fixated (or was that distracted?) by his reverb-saturated vocals, we were surprised to see Father John Misty's J. Tillman in the background as part of Beck's band.

While 'Blue Moon' was great (you can watch the performance above), Beck was even more impressive with the full string orchestra that backed him on the moody ballad 'Wave.' You can watch that performance below.

Beck is no stranger to orchestrations such as these, but the tasteful set and mellow vibe were refreshing after Imagine Dragons' full-blown rock set a month ago, the last time 'SNL' aired a new show.
