Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan has launched a trailer for his silent movie Pillbox, which has been set to music from his upcoming solo album Ogilala. You can see it embedded above.

Carrying the tagline “No hero dies but twice,” Pillbox was written and directed by Corgan, with assistance from longtime collaborator Linda Strawberry. It stars Harry Holmes, Rai Quartley, Anna Steers, Kalpana Pot, Hardeep Manak, Los Angela, Paul Seroka, Amelya Hensley and Ike Catcher. “I thought it was a different approach to listening to an album,” Corgan said in a statement. “To watch it in essence with a related, albeit non-linear, silent movie. Art is art. Together, the two pieces create a work unto itself.”

The film will be screened in London, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, with Corgan appearing at all the stops except Los Angeles, where Strawberry and select cast members will show up. You can purchase tickets at the film's website.

Arriving Oct. 13, Ogilala will appear under his birth name of William Patrick Corgan, and reported that he’d decided to focus on a stripped-down format with producer Rick Rubin. “For as long as I can remember the delineation point between songs I wrote for myself and songs I’d pen for whatever band was something I couldn’t explain,” Corgan said. “And it remains so, for they all feel quite personal to me, no matter their time or era. The lone difference on songs for Ogilala is that they seemed to want little in the way of adornment.

“Having written the songs for voice and guitar, I put myself in Rick’s hands to take the music wherever he’d like,” Corgan added. “Normally I would have done more, and tinkered more on production, but rather Rick put the onus on me to deliver at a molecular level via live takes. The rest was simply a reaction.”
