Dangerous winds are whipping through many counties in central and northern Montana on Tuesday. Wind gusts up to 60 MPH, when combined with falling snow are creating difficult travel conditions.
Very gusty winds of up to 55 MPH will join forces with more than a foot of snow for some mountains of Montana through Wednesday. Travel may be difficult through several mountain passes. Visibility will drop considerably.

The last few days of October will bring a foot or more of fresh snow to the mountains of southern Montana. Higher elevations south of I-90 such as Big Sky, Red Lodge, and even the Big Pryor Mountains could get pounded with heavy, wet snow through Tuesday night.
Northwest Montana will get pummeled with dangerous winds up to 80 MPH through Saturday evening. Recently fallen snow may affect road visibility in some areas. Power outages are also a possibility.
The high elevations and mountain passes of Montana are expecting quite a bit of snow by noon on Friday. Rain in the valleys is turning to snow on the ranges, and several Winter Storm Warnings have been issued.
Bozeman, Belgrade, and Big Sky are just a few of the areas being inundated with wildfire smoke again on Tuesday morning. Many parts of Montana are feeling the weight of bad air quality because of the smoke.
Friday and Saturday will be extremely windy across the entire state of Montana. If you plan on traveling with a large truck or towing unit, keep a keen eye on these conditions AND know that any small fires that start will be far more difficult to control.
