Comedian Russell Brand to Perform Beatles, Sex Pistols Classics at 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony
He played a rock star in both ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ and ‘Get Him to the Greek’ and did his best REO Speedwagon cover for the recent ‘Rock of Ages’ movie. Now actor/comedian Russell Brand will take center stage at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Summer Olympics to perform a pair of classics.
The Mirror reports that Brand will sing a comedy version of the Sex Pistols‘ ‘Pretty Vacant’ with Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders joining him in punk rock gear. Brand will also get a solo performance, taking on the Beatles‘ ‘I Am the Walrus.’
The closing ceremonies will also feature a number of top models paying tribute to British fashion while walking the runway to David Bowie‘s ‘Fashion’ and ‘Rebel Rebel,’ as well as a performance by Queen with Jessie J. singing ‘We Will Rock You’ for the audience.
Other performers for the closing ceremonies include Take That, Emeli Sande, Annie Lennox, George Michael, the Kinks‘ Ray Davies, the Pet Shop Boys, and Madness, with the Who closing out the night.
The Olympic Games run July 27-Aug. 12.
