A 42-year-old woman in Scotland was recently diagnosed with type one diabetes. As a result, she got a life-saving dog who can sniff out blood sugar levels and alert her when her blood sugar runs dangerously low or high. Good thing she did. In the past year, this smart canine has saved her life four times!

Last May, 42-year-old Carol Miller of East Kilbride, Scotland was diagnosed with type one diabetes. She now must rely on insulin injects and worry about falling into a diabetic coma. After her diagnosis, Carol heard about dogs that were specifically trained to sniff blood sugar levels. She was fortunate enough to find a local dog trainer to successfully train such a dog for her.

Carol's cocker spaniel, Hamish, has been amazing. He knows the salty scent she gives off from low blood sugars and the sweet smell from high blood sugars. Hamish alerts her when her blood sugar is getting to dangerous levels (even while she sleeps) so she knows when to inject herself with insulin or take sugar. In the past year, Hamish has saved his owner's life four times already. This story is near and dear to my heart and I had to share. I think this is awesome! I wish everyone with type one diabetes could have a dog like this. Read the full article from The Daily Mail here.
