The National Park Service is celebrating the Great American Outdoors Act with free entry to any National Park Service site on Sunday, August 4th, 2024. There are many NPS sites to visit in addition to Yellowstone National Park.

In 2024, there are 6 days of free entry to the National Park Service sites:

  • January 15: Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • April 20: First day of National Park Week
  • June 19: Juneteenth National Independence Day
  • August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
  • September 28: National Public Lands Day
  • November 11: Veterans Day

There are more than 400 parks to choose from to enjoy the great outdoors. Many of the parks normally charge a daily entrance fee, but some are always free of charge. Taking advantage of the free days is not only smart, but a good way to check out something new.

On March 1, 1872, Yellowstone became the first national park for all to enjoy the unique hydrothermal and geologic features.

Within Yellowstone's 2.2 million acres, visitors have unparalleled opportunities to observe wildlife in an intact ecosystem, explore geothermal areas that contain about half the world’s active geysers, and view geologic wonders like the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River.

NOTE FOR 2024: Biscuit Basin closed for the remainder of summer due to a hydrothermal explosion. The parking lot and boardwalks at Biscuit Basin, located north of Old Faithful, are closed for the remainder of the summer due to a hydrothermal explosion that occurred July 23. The Grand Loop Road remains open to vehicles.
