Carrie Fisher’s therapy dog Gary became a red carpet favorite during the press tour for The Force Awakens two years ago, stealing the show whenever Fisher took him to events and television appearances, even if all he did was take a nap. He’s such a fan-favorite that he even landed a part in The Last Jedi. No, really. Gary has been turned into a little dog-alien and you can see him in the publicity still above.

Yesterday morning, one fan tweeted at Johnson that she thought she recognized Gary in one of the stills, held by an odd-looking hunchbacked creature in what looks to be a casino in the Monte Carlo-esque gambling town Canto Bight.

He’s a little more bug-eyed and his ears are a little bigger, but that sure is Gary. Rian Johnson even confirmed it.

He didn’t specify whether that’s literally Gary in some alien prosthetics, or if it’s just an animatronic creature meant to evoke Gary, but the resemblance is uncanny. I can’t tell from the photo if he has Gary’s patented lolling tongue, but he should.

After Carrie Fisher’s death, Gary was kept in the family, going to live with her assistant before he ended up with Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd, who has also found a place for herself as a minor character in the new Star Wars trilogy. We hope someone brings Gary to the red carpet when The Last Jedi premieres.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in theaters December 15.
