You would be wrong about that assumption.

Several movies set in Montana have earned millions of dollars at the box office. They get overshadowed by blockbuster films set in Washington, Texas, California, or other more populous states.

What are the top-grossing films set in Montana? A few come to mind.

The Horse Whisperer is a classic that almost earned $187 million worldwide, and Legends of the Fall banked north of $160 million, but what's the top dog?

Here's the problem: it should be Arrival. The Academy Award-nominated sci-fi film banked over $203 million.

Is there another movie we should consider?

Stats Pands says these films were selected based on the importance of the location in the movie, and that's confusing.

Why? The state of Montana is in the film for ten minutes in the entire movie.

The owner of Jurassic Park comes to Montana to ask Dr. Grant and Ellie to visit the park.

If that's the case, we could easily select Forrest Gump or Shooter. Both movies have small parts set in Big Sky Country.
