In Montana, being a postal worker isn't easy, especially during the winter months. Many areas in the state are rural and mail carriers drive for miles to deliver mail and packages to residents all across Montana. Leaving a gift in your mailbox for your mailman or maillady is a thoughtful gesture, but you need to be careful. Here are a few items that postal workers are prohibited from accepting in Montana, according to the USPS website.

Gifts That Postal Workers in Montana Can't Accept

All postal employees, including carriers, must comply with the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Exec­utive Branch. Under these federal regulations, carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas. However, cash and cash equivalents, such as checks or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash, must never be accepted in any amount. Furthermore, no employee may accept more than $50 worth of gifts from any one customer in any one calendar year period.

The value of the gift can't exceed $20, and cash, checks, and gift cards can never be accepted. Postal workers can't accept more than $50 worth of gifts in a single year.
