On Saturday morning, March 9, Bozeman Police responded to a call at Owenhouse Ace Hardware Bike Shop, in regard to a burglary.

Upon arrival, Officer Holton spoke to employees, who told him that when they opened the store they noticed a side door had been broken into. Inside the store, they were several items moved and a wallet was found on the floor.

After reviewing security footage, it showed that at approximately 3:18 a.m., a male entered the store through the east door and began rummaging through items in the store. At one point, the man can be seen taking a pair of sunglasses and placing them on his head, which he eventually steals. Video footage shows the suspect leaving the store at approximately 4:00 a.m.

Officer Holton stated he immediately recognized the male as Mr. Jackson Herring, who he had dealt with a few hours earlier at approximately 7:00 a.m. when he apparently attempted to steal beer from Safeway in Bozeman.

Due to the staff at Safeway declining prosecution, Mr. Herring was released with a trespass warning. During the encounter, Herring was reportedly wearing a pair of orange sunglasses, which appeared to match the sunglasses stolen from the Owenhouse Ace Hardware Bike Shop.

Herring's Montana identification card was reportedly found inside of the wallet that was found on the floor of the bike shop.

Additionally, Mr. Herring was apparently involved in another theft at the CVS at approximately 7:40 a.m. where he was cited by Officer Ahmann for theft.

It was during this arrest in which Mr. Herring was taken into protective custody and transported to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital for a medical evaluation.

After having been treated by hospital staff, Mr. Herring was transported to the Gallatin County Detention Center and held on no bond.
