Mike D Had Surf Gear Stolen From His House
TMZ is saying that the had between 15 and 20 surfboards -- three of which were worth more than $1,000 each -- lifted from his shed outside his house in Malibu. Skateboards and surfing and skating gear were also taken.
Mike D was turned onto surfing a little more than 10 years ago by his son, who expressed an interest in it when he was two years old. In 2014, he, director Spike Jonze and surfer Rob Machado appeared in Mike D's Surf Safari, a short film that saw them going out to Baja, Calif., to go surfing.
Last month, he premiered "The Echo Chamber," a bi-weekly show on Beats 1 that finds him playing whatever he feels like. “In a way, it’s like a little bit like a fantasy that I’ve had since basically I started buying records as a 13-year-old," he said. “I’m still the same music fan. ... So, to actually be able to cut out the middle man and play records and have it be somehow part of a vocation is some weird wish fulfillment. And ultimately, like any other musician, I feel like the s--- that I like is better than the s--- that anybody else likes.”
